Combine dry lentils and spices in a mason jar - these make great gifts for holidays or party hosts!

  • Yields: 2 cups (500 mL) prepared


  1. Combine lentils with spices and water. Be sure to use a large enough saucepan as the lentils will double or triple in size.
  2. Bring to a boil, cover tightly, reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes or until lentils are tender. Stir occasionally.

Tasty Preparation Tips:
-Use vegetable or chicken stock instead of water to enhance the flavour
-Saute 1 chopped onion in 1 Tbsp (15 mL) of oil on medium heat for 3 minutes. Add the water or stock as well as lentils and continue to follow the cooking directions above
-Toss in your favourite chopped vegetables at the end


3/4 cup (175 mL) dry green lentils

1 tsp (5 mL) dried oregano

1/2 tsp (2 mL) dried basil

1/2 tsp (2 mL) garlic powder

1/4 tsp (1 mL) dried rosemary

2 1/4 cups (560 mL) water
