    1 lb (500 g) whole red lentils, cooked and pureed

    1 lb (500 g) mushrooms, roasted and pureed

    1 lb (500 g) ground beef, 85/15

    ¼ cup (60 mL) garlic, minced

    2 tsp (10 mL) Worcestershire sauce

    10 slices of American cheese, cut into quarters

    10 burger buns, lightly toasted

    3 cups (750 mL) low-fat mayonnaise

    ½ cup (125 mL) thinly sliced dill pickles


Directions

  1. Combine lentils, mushrooms, and beef. Add garlic and Worcestershire.
  2. Form 10x 5 oz (140 g) balls. Separate each ball into two thin burger patties. Place four quarters of cheese onto each bottom patty, in a circle formation, leaving a ½ inch border. Seal closed with a second patty on top. Be sure to press the edges together tightly.
  3. Grill patties on a flat top, approximately 4 minutes per side.
  4. While patties are cooking, pre-stage the buns with a smear of mayonnaise and thinly sliced pickles.
  5. Finish the burger with a cheese-filled patty and enjoy carefully, as the center will be very hot.
  6. Optional additional garnishes could include; ketchup or onions.
